Description

Skyval (Neofelis Quasiavis) is a winged feline originally from Africa, which initially developed wings to glide, such as with the flying squirrel. This increased the distance and efficiency of their attack. The wings are controlled in conjunction with the front legs: wings up when the legs are back and wings down when the legs are forward. The coat is adapted to pass air in one direction and your body is slimmer and lighter than other wild cats, to facilitate flight. Its name is a contraction of Sky and Serval (medium-sized wild cat also originally from Africa)

The feline was worshiped in ancient Egypt by Bast followers, for hunting lesser minions of Seth (rodents, birds and snakes). The cult of the Animal came to ancient Greece, where the creature represented the hunting goddess Artemis and the winged goddess of victory Nike. With the popularity of monotheistic religions, they considered the animal as a source of evil omen for its habit of hunting in the night, the animal began to be pursued leading to almost complete extinction, which facilitated the infestation of Europe by the Black Death.

To begin with I love the concept of this piece. Being a cat fanatic, I love art with feline mythology. The flat dimensional look reminds me of a hieroglyphic style art, yet you create nice balance of depth as well. Your color and shadows have wonderful contrast. I would suggest a few things though. Practice drawing cats more, the paws and legs look a bit too thick and shapeless, which look off with the sculpted look of the face. The wings also have a bit of shapeless feel to them. I understand it may be part of the style you are drawing, but I feel they could be a tad more detail. And if anything else play around with positive and negative space in your work. Honestly it very well done, in my opinion it has further potential. Best of luck in your art work :3
